FountainGrove MedSpa provides BOTOX in Santa Rosa that our patients can trust and depend on. Botox injections have been used by doctors for years to successfully treat wrinkles and other facial creases. It is used to block signals from the nerves to the muscles therefore the injected muscle can’t contract. Thus, allowing the wrinkles to relax and soften. Botox is typically used on the forehead, around the eyes and on frown lines. Botox treatment only takes a few minutes and doesn’t require anesthesia. It is done by inserting a fine needle into the specific muscle and should only cause minor discomfort. Here at FountainGrove MedSpa, we are dedicated to making your Botox treatment a comfortable and rewarding experience.
How BOTOX ® Cosmetic Works
The Science behind the treatment
A combination of factors can cause facial lines. It’s not just about the cellular changes that may occur, or reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals from the sun and the environment. Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines. BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines in adults – to help them look visibly smoother.
What areas do you want to work on?
Botox is used to relax the contraction of muscles by blocking the nerve impulses. The muscles will no longer be able to contract, so the wrinkles relax and soften.
The treatment takes about 5 to 15 minutes and results are typically seen within 2-4 days.
Botox treatments are only performed by a board certified surgeon in a sterilized medical procedure room.
The most common side effect is bruising at and around the injection site. Other common side effects include: headache, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, blepharoptosis (drooping of the upper eyelid), nausea and indigestion (heartburn).
Botox injections typically last 4-6 months and retreatment is commonly needed. After each injection, wrinkles tend to appear less severe than before because the muscles have been trained to relax.
Botox is most commonly used on the facial area to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, but it is used in other areas of the body. It has been known to help reduce sweating in hands and armpits.
Botox treatments are administered with a fine needle so discomfort can be expected, but it is not particularly painful.
Pregnant or nursing patients are not recommended as good candidates for Botox treatments. It is also not recommended for people with neurological diseases or who are taking aminoglycoside antibiotics.
Botox treatment costs are calculated by how much is injected. Each individual is different and requires a different amount of medication which is customized by the surgeon.

Botox Cosmetic is the #1 treatment for dynamic wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet), between the eyebrows (the “11’s or worry lines) and the forehead, quickly becoming a favorite treatment among women and men who are looking to improve their appearance. Botox has a long history in ophthalmology and was first used for spasms around the eyelids in the 1980s until the cosmetic effects of wrinkle reduction were noticed. Many ophthalmologists and other specialists have used Botox to reduce wrinkles on the face, primarily around the eyes and forehead.
Since its FDA Approval in 2002 for cosmetic use, Botox has become the number one non-invasive cosmetic treatment in the country. At the same time, the number of people injecting Botox has risen exponentially with many clinics and spas having technicians, nurses, or even doctors with little or no formal training in its use. Therefore, it is essential to clarify whether you will be having a board certified surgeon well versed in facial anatomy performing the injection. Ophthalmic cosmetic surgeons like Dr. Swati Singh are among the most experienced and highly trained doctors in the use of Botox for removing wrinkles, lines, and contour irregularities.
It is also important for you to know how much Botox is being injected. A reputable center does not dilute or store reconstituted Botox for long periods as this can result in decreased effect and inferior results. Most patient use an average of 50 Units. 10 units by each eye, 20 units between the eyebrows and 10 units on the forehead. However, your treatment is customized to your specific wrinkle pattern. Dr. Singh injects Botox by unit, so the patient gets exactly what they pay for. She then keeps a record of your injection to use as a reference for further injections.
Some confusion exists between the use of Botox and the use of facial fillers such as Juvederm, Vollure, Voluma and Bellafill. Botox decreases muscle contraction which helps reduce dynamic wrinkles which are wrinkles caused by movement. Botox is usually most effective around the eyes and forehead. Facial fillers help “fill” volume deficits and smooth out static wrinkles – wrinkles caused by volume loss and gravity. Fillers are generally most useful around the mouth and in the mid face, but can be used to define the jawline and nose as well. Often, a combination of Botox and facial fillers are required to achieve the best results.
Many of our Botox patients come from out-of-town and see us during their vacations and business meetings. Please call the office to check on availability of last minute appointments. During your consultation, you and Dr. Singh will discuss whether Botox is right for you.
Dynamic wrinkles appear temporarily when a muscle contracts during facial expression (i.e. smiling, frowning).
